Visual Strategies with Boardmaker Online

Individuals with autism spectrum disorders and similar disabilities learn and manage their world better when visual strategies are used to support their understanding, expression, and positive behavior. You say visual strategies, I think Boardmaker! In this webinar we will review what we know about how visual strategies facilitate communication, emotional regulation, learning, and independence for our students, and see how to find, create and implement those supports with Boardmaker Online.

This webinar provided me with a wealth of knowledge on how to create meaningful visual supports for my early intervention preschool students. I was excited to see that Boardmaker has its own online curriculum as well as being able to access the website for thematic units designed with differentiated instruction. I really liked the examples of the mini-schedules and behavior support schedules and how they are used within the overall schedule of the student's day. Also, being able to use the search tool to find structured activities, social stories, etc. was an amazing feature of this program. I'm also glad that the option to use real pictures/photos is in place as some student's need that reality factor when working on communication skills.

This webinar gave me a soup-to-nuts understanding of the many ways to use one tool for a myriad of student profiles. Sandy speaks simply and clearly for beginners to experienced Boardmakers. One suggestion I have is to offer the webinar in slides. The WiFi connection where I work is often weak/intermittent and it can take 2-3x's longer to listen to a webinar. Thanks again!
